PROJECT NEXT GEN
One of 8 editors and camera operators that created this feature length documentary based around 9 different European parkour teams exploring a new city with the task of creating a video each of how they explored, trained and interpreted the city, this film went on to screen at the Genesis Cinema in Bethnal Green.
THE BIG JIFFY FIFTHUNIT STAYCATION
I was the camera operator and editor for this documentary, we travelled around the UK for 2 weeks sleeping rough and jumping on walls! This was just after I had finished my degree so this was a great mix of the usual fun of shooting parkour but with the added skills I had learnt over the years at Plymouth it turned it into a professional looing piece of work.
SCALES
This was my final short film at university, based around the negative effects of the trawling industry in both an environmental sense and emotional too. I utilised a Hi8 video camera to create the feeling that trawling is an outdated method of fishing that is damaging our world, this use of antiquated equipment was also used to create the idea that the father character is stuck in the past. I was the director, camera operator and editor on this film.
DELICATE IS
Delicate (Extraordinary Bodies, 2022) was a shoot for FarFlung at Theatre Royal Plymouth. Far Flung is a group of creatives that are mostly disabled or neurodivergent. This was a small production team but the production itself was quite a large scale with at least 20 different performers that we filmed doing interpretive dance, gymnastics and reading poetry. I was the lighting technician on this job.
BEYOND THE CLASSROOM CONFERENCE
The 7th Beyond the Classroom Conference was truly remarkable. The Conference brought together industry experts and educators to explore innovative strategies and best practices in educational development. The delegates were privileged to engage in insightful workshops, inspiring keynote speeches, and meaningful networking opportunities, making it an invaluable experience for all participants.
WELL-BEING GARDEN
The well-being garden was designed and created by Limpsfield Grange School Year 10 students as part of their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award, I edited the footage they captured of this process to advertise to the public their great work!
CATERING AND HOUSEKEEPING ADVERTISEMENT
for this advertisement I was tasked with creating a job advertisement that asked, Have you worked in the catering industry? Do you have a passion and skill for cooking for groups of children staying for a residential in an exciting environment? If the answer is yes, we would like to hear from you.
SEADREAM EDUCATION
The subject of this documentary is a charity called "Seadream Education", a non profit organisation set up by Dr Juliette Jackson, they strive to empower the younger generation through giving workshops to primary school children. as well as other public engagements.
A MISERABLE JOLLY WINTER
This film has gave me an outlook on the difference between using technology like the Black Magic kit and equipment like my tape camera, showing how cinematography is not about using high quality gear, it is about using lighting, positioning and movement to create a feeling for your audience. This makes it easier to show a personal message such as my contrast between the mental highs and lows people experience in winter.
LIQUID LIGHT SHOW
One of my aims for this experement is to find a new way to expand on a concept that was in its height of popularity over 50 years ago, this modern twist of my own into this medium will hopefully help prove that old techniques and methods are worth revisiting in the modern day. The aesthetic choice to use older equipment for new productions runs through not just film, but all technology. People trust older products as they were built to last unlike the throwaway culture we live in today, many products will break within a matter of years.
STATIC
Static is a Horror/Psychological thriller that follows a man called Ed trying to help his friend Rich that seems to have completely changed into a different person, he doesn't eat, he doesn't sleep and he stays locked in his rooms almost all of the day. We follow Ed on his numerous attempts to enter his room and discover this secret that Rich is keeping from him. Our next character who is an unnamed man is a friend of Ed's, he receives a text from Ed that prompts him to enter the house and investigate what's wrong, we follow him up the stairs until he reaches Rich's door discovering both of their dead bodies, he checks their pulses until a flickering light entrances him and causes him to sit down on the floor unable to move.
ROOF ‘N’ BONES
I was camera operator on this short comedic piece, it was a nice change of pace from my usual work, but was nice to visualise the comedic script into a film, it reminds me of the TV programme “Peep Show” with the guerrilla style shooting techniques just trying to get the story across, not worrying about how cinematic it should look.
PARDON MY FRENCH
This film explores imperfect cinema through the glorification of the normal less fast paced side of a travel video, its not all slap in your face beautiful views and huge jumps! This film takes the time to explore those quiet nights in, the rest days, the pesto pasta devouring and the beer glugging! Another way it explores imperfect cinema is through the use of green screen to create quite a jarring viewing experience for the viewer, Its hard to tell what's going on for lots of the video and especially with the film being in a foreign language it can be hard to follow completely on the first watch, viewers may need to watch multiple times which, In conventional cinema this would be a big red flag for a film as their message may not be getting across in one viewing but I believe this enriches the film as the viewer gets to see something that they didn't notice on their first viewing.
BIG EEF + FRIENDZ
My first big parkour project, this took around a year of filming and editing to complete as it was like a baby to me, I am really happy with how it turned out as I think it is the perfect mix of Parkour, shenanigans and exploration.
